A number of cheap ptz network security cameras are available now with web interfaces You can easily watch these from the N900 or other maemo device:

With my 'Hootoo" brand PTZ camera it works with

Code:
mplayer -user XXXXXXX -password YYYYYYY http://aaa.bbb.c.dd:portnum/video.cgi?a=.mjpg
XXXX,YYYY username and password
aaa,bbb,c,dd is the ip address
portnum is the port number configured for the camera

It also can be viewed in browser, but this is extremely slow. Mplayer is superior here.

Decoding mjpg has pretty severe performance issues with WLAN bandwidth and CPU use. I will be experimenting with ZoneMinder and Knots2 solutions for security monitoring.

If anyone else is experimenting with monitoring applications, i'd appreciate comments to this thread. Thanks.

So you're saying that this is a generic command/way to accessing most of the ptz cameras? I have a couple of panasonic ptz's. Do you think it would work the same waY?
