The OS creates a folder structure on your microSD card whether you want it to or not. Apps can't see the microSD card. Audio does not sync when watching Youtube--despite the browser being pretty decent over all. No bluetooth tethering for data. The auto-diming feature of the display is uncomfortably sudden and too frequent. A lot of little things like this are annoying. I really hope there are some quick updates, because it does not feel ready.
Have you tried connecting screen and keyboard yet?

Default random string passwords for access points are one of my pet hates. It's a shame more people don't know how to change the SSID/PW, it's especially frustrating when the device is somewhere that people have to add new devices all the time (cafes, holiday homes etc.)

I agree that's terrible design though, it's not always possible to change the PW to something sensible.

Not yet. I have never really owned a desktop computer and need to borrow a keyboard and mouse.

My advice... sell it quick.

Wait... no browser, no terminal? How does that work? Just have to install via their app store?

Thanks for your input and earlier, I was honestly joking. Hope that you recoup your losses for that horrible exchange.

Yeah, I forgot to mention (in my earlier posts) Ubuntu Touch
does not even come with a file browser and terminal,
something you gotta 'buy' in the store (free),
and if you neglect to get a Ubuntu One account
you can install exactly nothing.

Wonderful world of Ubuntu Touch

every day I use my Ubuntu phone for less and less,
but I just discovered someone is trying to create
a Kubuntu-Mobile image to install on my particular version.
The image I found was created last month,
but there is exactly zero comment about it,
and I expect it probably bricks the phone outright,
which would make it almost as useful as it is now.
I expect they will fail horribly due to the Mediatek crap,
and that is probably why I have no luck in tracking down
just who is responsible for the image.

If (big if) someone actually succeeds in replacing this
Ubuntu Touch crap with Kubuntu Mobile
(where we could use a REAL email client
and WORKING IRC aided by a USEFUL file browser)
I would be very happy.

Wait... let me get this right. You receive a phone that is based on Ubuntu Touch that doesn't come out of the box with a browser, file browser, nor terminal yet are offered free in their app store but requires you to set up an Ubuntu One account before you can do anything?

Yet folks are against Jolla requiring an account? Or that Android and iTunes basically require one too?

I don't like this requirement. And it just... seems way wrong.

Hang on a minute. Are you saying that this post was about UT? Forgive me for thinking it was about Jolla. All the things you mention there sound uncannily familiar.

Just because companies A and B do it does not mean that company C has to do it too. I was and still am strongly against Jolla doing it. I find it wrong on so many levels I would not know where to start. To be honest, Ubuntu doing it surprises me less than Jolla.

To be fair, the Jolla account and a Google account aren't really comparable by any means. Where Google has you provide the names, addresses and any other personal information of everyone up until your distant relatives (if they don't already have it), the Jolla account is just a username and a password. Would it be nice to download the applications on the Jolla store without an account? Sure, but having to come up with a new username is not really the end of the world. It's still possible to install new software through e.g. OpenRepos or just separate RPMs. Of course, this is also possible on Android, but it wouldn't surprise me if this possibility were to be taken away sometime in the future for 'security reasons'. It's also possible that Jolla is going to require more personal details for the account and remove the possibility of installing software outside of the Jolla store, but given their track record I really doubt that.

I don't know where the Ubuntu account fits on the spectrum, if it's also only user/pass or if you need to provide more details. User/pass is okay, anything more makes me wary.

Did you see the release notes for 2.0.1? I agree with you both, but it looks like Jolla have fixed this, which is good news:

Allow installing untrusted software without Jolla account

correction,
It does come with a web browser,

- That remains the singular whole goal of a Ubuntu Phone:
Handphone with a web browser.

Does precisely nothing else except play music and twitter.

Which means as a linux system it has been gutted.
I have had a go at installing such things as vpn,
cups, claws-mail, nodejs, freenet. etc but it is clamped to
a root filesystem that is too small to accommodate
much more than a few utilities (much less IDE stuff).
I did manage to get a Python framework into it,
but the timeout issue and lack of multitasking
derails applications.
And the timeout issue (somewhat fixable with some effort)
means most apps will halt mid-sentence
when the screensaver comes on.
It it just not designed to run
anything that you are not staring at.

They even had one kind soul who made an alternative
to the Ubuntu store (uApp) who tries to filter out actual
'Apps' against the tsunami of cr@p that is webf@rt.
it sometimes appear as if he has given up
at this Sisyphean task.

It is perverse.

If it was a working system that actually did anything
besides repackage web browsing sessions as webf@rts
then it would be reasonable to ask for an account,
only maybe.

As a linux phone it is a complete belly-flop,
there are simply too many things carved out of it
to run anything resembling linux stuff that had working GUI.

I am not familiar with Jolla,
I was hoping the experience there was a bit less tragic.
