Two days ago Google has released officially Android 2.3

So I suppose that NitDroid team will try soon to port it on N900.

Android 2.3 in based on kernel 2.6.35, same kernel as MeeGo.

So my suggestion is why not use MeeGo kernel (N900's version) instead to try to back port Google patches to Kernel 2.6.28 (Maemo's kernel) ?

I think there are other factors, but its good you bring this up. Maybe Nitdroid development will be more successful with Gingerbread.

Of course, I don't intend to suggest to use a MeeGo's stock kernel rather I suggest to use a MeeGo's Kernel plus Google's patches.

Android 2.3 uses a 2.6.35 kernel with some google's patches.

These patches are designed for 2.6.35 kernel sources so I think it is a much easier task to apply them to MeeGo's kernel sources than to apply them (with needed back port corrections) to Maemo's kernel sources

It is much better to make Android 2.2 works perfectly on N900 first before porting Android 2.3.. Watcha think?

I think that we can directly go to 2.3 (if not much work is needed to do that) as it has happened when Froyo has come out and Nitdroid team has abandoned Eclair porting.

Furthermore real Froyo (2.2) uses a 2.6.32 kernel but Nitdroid version uses the older 2.6.28 (from Maemo) patched.
It is possible that some actual limitations are due to this
