one more test, do on xterminal

ls -lrt /var/lib/apt/lists
if this directory dosent exists you have to create it as root.

mkdir -p /var/lib/apt/lists/partial
and then
apt-get update

I try to do the test on x-terminal and the message was the following:

" Is -lrt /var/lib/apt/lists
-sh: Is: not found

mkdir -p /var/lib/apt/lists/partial
apt-get update
E: Could not open lock file /var/Lib/apt/lists/lock - open (13 permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the list directory "

still gives the error.....

are you doing it as root ?

sorry while copying it didn't copied the correct syntax, thats why you get not found, its lower "L" at begining, but while copying the syntax it says capital "I", so try it again and paste the output

ls -lrt /var/lib/apt/lists

it means, that some of your package is corrupted and needs to be fixed. post the output of the command which I mentioned before to check whats inside that directory.
