What does Conky say? It the CPU? If it's not, it might be the wifi being locked in an odd position, so disconnect before moving to offline.
Or, maybe a daemon or app that wants to connect and assumes it will always be there locks. Should show up in top or Conky.
Try this first: shut off all radios before moving to offline. Close all network connections, remove autoconnect, kill BT and then go offline, see how that goes.

But shutting all off before going offline is:
a) to much work
b) no need to go offline then :-)
I guess I should try this sometimes in a day to see what happens and if it happens see what conky has to say.
I usually do it a night and I guess conky has no history, or does it.

Don't need history, it seems to be a constant draw. Just see if anything drains.
And I suggested you tried going offline manually once, to isolate the issue.

I had this a couple of times that when I switched to offline mode (its mostly because I use my N900 once in a while as an alarm clock and don't want to be disturbed) the battery drains extremly fast.
