I am creating this thread for those who have problems using Harmattan DSP codecs to play/record 720p. If all of you having problems continue to post on the original 720p thread, it will soon become useless. So post your problems,comments, jokes, curses, etc. here.

Thanks.

So, what was the reason to re-install kernel-power?!?

Anyway, copy again bridgedriver.ko from 720p.zip in appropriate place.

I need to know how can I overclock DSP. I did search but couldn't find it.
Is it mandatory to overclock DSP? 720p videos lags for me.

Thank you.

Mostly repeated from the old thread...

I've been ripping some DVDs with Handbrake for play on my N900, using these new DSP drivers. Even non-720p h264 m4v videos play much more smoothly. Unfortunately there does seem to be a correlation between the N900 clock speed, the kB/s rate of the video, and gstreamer's willingness to begin playing the video.

freemangordon stated this is likely a mafw-related issue, since lowerlevel gst cli can launch just fine. For my part, I intend to investigate this by ripping the same sample at multiple bitrates and testing playback.

Yes the overclock is required depending on the content you are paying back.

Ok... to overclock DSP.
this had been explained many places, one could easily refer the wiki.but anyway,

browse to below path(or your custom file path, i have my custom file there) and edit the profile which you currently use on a daily basis .

usr/share/kernel-power-settings

you'll find some thing like below

# minimum frequency to use
MINFREQ=250
# maximum frequency to use
MAXFREQ=600
# list of frequency configurations: each "frequency:volt,dsprate"
FREQS="0:30,90 125:30,90 250:38,180 500:48,360 550:54,400 600:60,430 700:60,430 750:60,430 805:60,430 850:60,500 900:60,500 950:60,500 1000:60,500 1100:72,520 1150:72,520"

edit the figures in red to whatever you like (max 600) and save it.

run below as root
kernel-config load xxxxx

now when ever you reach a certain cpu frequency the relevant DSP overclock will also apply.

to ensure smooth payback/recording, you can lock the cpu to a certain frequency which will lock the dsp too.

eg While watching a 720p movie,
kernel-config lock 700
After watching
kernel-config unlock

ps: i've used the default profile above for explanation purposes only, use your own voltages for your device.

hope this helps
nkirk

With DSP@600 and CPU@1000 on max voltages I can record only 20 frames per sec on 1280x720 in cameraui. Is there anything I can do to get some frames more? Same result is when recording with gst command from cli.

Same here. I wonder why does N9 have smoother recording on the same chipset. Neon optimization, SGX working in tandem, or software? DSP is the same, but maintains 430MHz clock on OMAP 3630, and higher profile videos are supported.

EDIT: I know HD is in early stages on the N900, just wondering.

hi guys, i have a kind of major problem :/
after installation of the 720rec app, my phone no longer shows any applications. i know they are still there, as i can access conversations, phone, contacts and xterm through the gui and keyboard shortcuts.
i have tried a reboot, i have tried both the power kernel and original nokia kernel (i have multiboot installed) and nothing has helped.
would anyone know how to uninstall 720rec using xterm? because i believe that it is causing the problem. if you do know how, that would help a lot

EDIT: fixed the problem

went into xterm and typed:
root
apt-get remove 720prec
apt-get purge 720prec

and did a reboot.

hopefully it helps other people who had the same problem.

Why do you post here?
In the HD-Recorder thread, there is a new version, where this problem is fixed for good. http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...4&postcount=43

Thank you nkirk for the DSP guide.

I still have problems playing the 720p videos. It lags and plays frozen frame by frame in KMPlayer. Not playing at all in Stock player.

Please help.

Thank you.
