And thus went 7 (or more?) years of mobile research down the drain. So, I guess Maemo really was ahead of its time. But yeah, it's clear that it was never even given a chance to become anything else than a research project. Thank you for everything, Kallasvuo and Elop.

I have never thought that the day I said this would come, but, what the heck, Nokia? Samsung really deserves to overtake you.
It won't really die, the spirit of Maemo/Meego will live again one day in Meltemi. Hopefully.

Meltemi is coming this year. It will effectively change all of Nokias future S40 dumbphones to smartphones.

Maybe it will be too little too late. But maybe it will be exactly what is needed (Qt on top of a small footprint Linux). It may attract lots of developers. Seeing how Nokia has managed things in the recent past, I would say they are more likely to screw it up than succeed though. But then again, Nokias s40 department has always been run extremely well compared with Symbian/Maemo and the core technology behind Meltemi is dead solid and infinitely scalable.

Nokia does lots of strange things, but compared with the competitors, they always make some very interesting and inspiring products, even if those products are doomed (Maemo, Meego, Symbian devices).

Interesting times ahead

Mostly agreed with you -that's a 1st!
I don't suppose you could elaborate upon what's quoted above?
I just want to see if what you know squares with what I've read.

Huh? No secrecy, I only know some superficial stuff at this stage & thought you may know a bit more.
Based on what you said it sounds like you may, hence why I asked, no agenda, simple/honest question.

Well I can dream, can't I? Cheap, rugged, meltemi-based candybar phone with the 808's camera thrown in... mhmmm, lovely.

That's fine with me. I'd rather avoid Android.

Meltemi has more in common with Android than Maemo apparently. According to rumors it is a extensively stripped down Linux core with little in common with Maemo/Meego.

One can only wait and see, and hope for the best, whatever that may be.
