Truth be told...
personal computing and mobile devices for people since...well...
since the first home computers came out..has been way beyond religious in nature for people.
handling another's system is tantamount to seeing a ladies ankles in the Victorian era.
It just isn't done.
It is the new "nakedness" ..the new nudity...
the new taboo.
It goes well beyond religion I believe.
What we have here at Maemo I think is religion.
it is an ethical and moral belief system ..
What closed systems have is a cult.
Whose followers believe in Apple or M$ or even the lesser of the evils ...Android ...
who espouse the gospel of:
- "It is the "latest" ...therefore it must be more advanced ...ergo I am ahead of the curve"
- "It is such and such Brand ...therefore it has value and worth ..therefore it is more advanced...ergo my child is ahead of the curve..and has an edge over the other kids in school"
- "It must be good since 1/3 of the population use Brand X...therefore it has value and worth ..ergo I am still ahead of the curve.."
- "According to the proceeding... competing Brands are my enemy and their followers have less intelligence..other options aren't options since my Brand holds key market ground and shares in this civilization..ergo..I and mine will always be ahead of the curve."
- "I and mine are not smart enough or do not have enough time to think about choice../ Choice means I have to make decisions and that is tiring...ergo ..I want someone else to choose serious life changing choices for me and I will follow blindly...I still have freedom..I just choose freely not to use it."
All of that is extremely fervent belief out of the Brand followers.
It is far far beyond religion and is truly cult like.
Anyone who thinks otherwise ...
I suggest an "acid test"
3 sane ...Maemites ...
each heads to one of the forums .... Iphone, Android, or M$
and say that the forum's os sucks and such and such is better.
come back and report verbatim how the tar and feathering went before they got out of the forums alive.

Perhaps the title is "A Pattern of Consumption". Or not. Blocked off almost at the end of the two columns of carts is that brown door with the red sign you can just make out at maximum zoom: "Fire Door Do Not Block"
Ubuntu Touch, stock camera on a One Plus One -- or as my computer sees its codename when transferring files -- "Bacon".

My second choice, discarded for too much stuff in the background and not an infinite enough looking line. But definitely showing it's deep and wide . . .

Me...
I used to be a diesel and a petrolhead ...
Still have a pre electronic chev pickup..I use for yard and reno work on the house..
But me...
I'm a 3 prong socket head now...
This one of my babies..
2017 model
(taken with a nexus 5)
Super Soco TS
I just finished ripping off the slickers on it ..
Had to take both fenders off ..front and rear..the new tires were just far too big for the fenders to stay on.
I wanted knobbies for ice, snow and trail riding..
Just finished that yesterday.
Now it looks like a Mad Max special...
Tuesday I am ordering this years model Super Soco TC.
