I would like to know if buying a Nokia N800 can be yet a good option for a geek needs. I already had a Nokia N800 in 2009
and i used it to be a multimedia player using the Canola App, monitoring the car performance using a OBD scanner with Carman
and the Maemo Mapper was a good software.

Now, my needs are to have a full Linux device that can be open enough to run Linux console apps like Node Interpreter (nodeJS),
Shell scripts, rsync commands and a lot of new ideas.

I will use rsync to sync Nokia N800 songs with my computer when this tablet is idle and the car is in the parking.

Here in Brazil, theft is always a fear that everybody feels. This small tablet is very cheap here. A second hand option
is less than 70 dollars, less than a good dinner here.

Today we can see a lot of better computers and tablets but the features in N800 seems to be good.

Are the repositories alive?

Because the Nokia N800 / N810 have a bigger screen. Not so bigger but i think that is enough to be a car computer.

And i would like to know if the N810 have a turn by turn navigation software like Nokia Drive.

Welllll...

-wikiwide mentions a-gps being a more recent ..a better alternative in a recent post for the n8x0...(even still...a-gps has been around for a while now btw...so it has been used and tested and run by many...some have good things to say....others don't...I suggest reading up on it to make up your own mind...)

-running maemo linux naturally...
running other linux?...kde, xfce, ubuntu, mer, debian...etc....
easy deb...easy mer...some work better than others...
alot of option...

-fm player,
-skype, google talk, sip calling
-and more functionality...

-enough native maemo n8x0 programs to shake a stick at...

-repositories are working..prime ones that is...

-other 3rd party catalogues are varied from working fine to missing packages to offline...
-THAT loss can be easily remedied ...reversed in fact...with all those lost 3rd party programs revived and restored... "IF"... there is enough interest in making that happen....
frankly I think it shouldn't be an "IF" ...
it should be a foregone ...

So...in all ..I think the N8x0's are great...
But I'm biased (naturally) in favour of them....
