Hi! There's a long time I'm checking software, I tried SIP (not possible to send SMS), I've tried VOIP (but also there's no software for N9 that allows SMS, or even any software)... I'm now using skype, charge credits and found that doesn't work too in N9 to send SMS (it uses operator instead of skype credits), what a mess of a phone!! The greatest but lacks in so many useful things!!!!

There is any program I could use to send SMS to mobile??? I'm paying a lot through my operator! Sky+e should work, but same **** as others!

Need help here! Thank you in advance!

Well, SMS is a network operator feature so you have a really hard time sending SMS'es without an operator!

There are operator gateways, true, where you can inject an SMS with a HTML query for example, but it still requires the operator to deliver the message

Your best bet is probably to get a Google Voice number and use QGVDial. That will let you send texts for free to anyone in the US or Canada.

You can send texts to other countries, it's just not free.

I'm confused. So, what phone or OS can send SMS without an operator?
Because SMS is by definition an operator thing, isn't it???

That enters the grey area of what you consider "without an operator". Skype also allows you to send an SMS. And I have heard that Twitter too, in certain locales.

In all these cases, you need a way to connect to those services. You can do it by WiFi or by 3/4G. In the latter case, you need an operator.

Also, said services do not have the infrastructure to do it by themselves. They route it through an operator and charge you for it some other way.

Not to forget that you need an operator to receive the SMS.
