I'm with GA on this one. You can't count on the post you're looking for having been created in the right (sub)forum anyway, even if it exists (just look at the "General" - pun intended :-) : so if you're looking for help, relying on forum sections will not cut it.
And if you're a power user, you only ever look at the "new posts" sequential listing anyway, and you know how to use Search to help others and yourself.
If changes must be made, I'd rather see the efforts go into making Search more visible, prominent and easy to use -- not to mention making it actually find stuff :-)

Personally, I browse from the front page (or one of the "recent activity" searches), so I don't pay any attention at all to the subforums, but keeping the divisions down to a minimum reduces confusion and prevents irritating fragmentation.
