I have installed Simple Brightness Applet, and the Flashlight applet, on my N900.

They were both working fine until last week when they stopped showing up in my applet tray. (I am not sure of the correct name of the GUI element).

I have tried uninstalling/re-installing Simple Brightness Applet to no avail. It does not show up any more.

For clarity, this youtube video shows the Flashlight applet as it should, and used to, appear:

Flashlight

Does anyone have any idea what may have gone wrong to make the applets disappear, or how to troubleshoot this issue to make them appear again, please?

First make sure they are both still installed
Code:
apt-cache policy simple-brightness-applet flashlight-applet

Code:
apt-cache policy simple-brightness-applet
Code:
apt-cache policy flashlight-applet
Both return that they are installed.

I installed powatool: simple-brightness-applet and flashlight-applet are both ticked already.
Very strange.

That is strange:
I am sure rebooting my device was the first thing I tried when this went wrong last week.
However, I just rebooted again and the applets re-appeared.
Perhaps it was the combination of powatool and rebooting...

Exactly (more or less) happened to me. Many extra applets are gone (some time after reboot). The simple-brightness-applet, GSM/3G switcher, etc. . On the other hand - "FM transmiter" from cssu remains.
