I am considering buying a N8x0 as a video player, internet browsing and general linux learning device. However, I don't want to burn much cash in a brande new device, just to find it inadequate for me (I already got a E71).

How good is the N800 as a video player? Does it has fast web browsing?

Install Mplayer, and you'll get full screen, good quality sound, and video. But streaming from sites like YouTube is a bit stuttery, but you could live with it.

If you use MyTube, the video streaming from YouTube seems to be pretty smooth, plus you get the added benefit of being able to keep the videos you downloaded to watch again without needing to re-stream them.

The N800 is not as good at video playing as some of the devices designed specifically to decode video (e.g. the archos PMPs), it will not play the same DivX/Xvid files as you'd have ready to play on your PC, or may do, just about (depending on the settings), with some difficulty.

As a learning device it's very cool though, and the mobile internet is good.
