Aleph One is the open source continuation of Bungie's Marathon 2 game engine.

Upstream: http://marathon.sourceforge.net/

And their 1.0 announcement (after 12 years of developing):
http://marathon.sourceforge.net/1.0-release.html

And longer story:
http://marathon.sourceforge.net/rele.../20111201.html

Pakcage 'alephone' is game engine, not usefull without data files, but you can then download any data-pack e.g. Most-popular-community-made-scenarios: http://marathon.sourceforge.net/scenarios.php#more

--
Package 'marathon1' is data-files for Marathon1 from sourceforge. Install it and you will get engine and menu launcher.
(i.e. /opt/alephone/alephone /opt/alephone/marathon1 )
Installed size=164M

Video: http://youtu.be/tmCj44ZXTuo

--
There are also packages 'marathon2' (195M) and 'marathon3' (167M).
(Waiting for your video responses)
--

These game packs are unmodified from sourceforge svn. Thus now I need your help: Provide working key configurations and list of functions which can't be tuned from preferences.

---
Technically engine is:
Code:
svn co https://marathon.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/marathon marathon -r 4652
wget
https://aleph-wone.googlecode.com/files/remove_opengl_dependency.diff
./configure --disable-opengl

Interesting, will the extras-devel packages install fine on Harmattan, or are there additional hurdles? Figured I'd ask first, but I'll probably give this a shot soon regardless (both on my N9, and of course on my N900, where I'll try and help to provide some good key configurations and other potential tunings; I've long loved this game in theory, but never actually had it myself, so this sounds like a great opportunity to finally get into it while also being constructive in my time usage, heh).

For me it's working fine. Good job!

I have a N900 with english keyboard.

I use arrows keys to move, "." and "enter" to strafe left and right, "a" and "z" to look up and down, "shift" to fire, "alter function" to do an action and "m" for the minimap.

I have a problem. Once I launch the game I can't go back to the menu. How can I do? Thank you in advance!

You are right! Going menu needs ESCape, which we do not have. And this can't be tuned inside game, it must be set on source code. I can make new release. What would be good for it? 'Q'? Or ctrl? Not sure if ctrl is even possible (possible means easy enough)

I think "Q" for "quit" or "E" for "escape" will be good. Probably "Q" is better than "E". It's easier to find and to push.

This is great! I've never heard of that game before. I'll have to check out the open source code...sounds like an interesting project.

New engine pushed: 'q' is reserved for quitting
-> user can't assign other action for 'q'

New game data packages pushed: They depend new engine. And they have new default key values, which do not use 'q'. (if you have already played game, your key settings have in /home/user/.alephone/*.Preferences )

Btw: Marathon1 is released on 1994, SDL-version is newer.
