I think everyone needs to just take a breath for a second, read this post and calm down.

It's only been a couple of days so far, and over a weekend at that. Once we've got more clarity on the situation, which I'm sure will happen over the next few days, we can, as a community, work out what to do about it. It may involve putting everything back like it was, it may involve setting up an independent effort a la RPM Fusion for 'troublesome' packages, but we don't know yet, it's just to early to say for sure.

You don't know that - no-one does at this point.

i have to say by them being took down shows who really controls maemo.org and its not the community as nokia would like us to believe
That's not true either - it could simply be that the community recognises that it's not in our interest to do something that needlessly screws Nokia, on whom we rely for a lot of support.

The longer I look at this thread (and some others), the more I am inclined to think that releasing these emulators has not been a good idea. At least, releasing them for free, as it breeds hordes of freeloaders.

It's far too easy to sit there and call Nokia daft for removing the emulators when you don't have the full story... or even a tenth of it. So please, don't go overboard with stuff like saying the community doesn't control the repositories (who do you think actually took down the packages, hmm?)

fms : Maybe it just brings people who want to play good games they enjoyed in their childhood

zerojay : Yes, I heard it was the original developper or the repositories managers who did it. I can totally understand this decision, we'll have to wait a bit before deciding to put them back in Extras (or in other repositories).

One is the emulator and the other is needed when you are a programmer debugging the program.
