Strange - by default, the media player always plays movies in full screen.

This happens on *all* movies you play?

We need more info - what kind of file? Have you tried on of the other media players (smplayer, mplayer, etc)? Any hacks/'patches' you've installed?

I just noticed the blueish purple part in the middle that is probably the video area!

If by full screen you mean fill the screen by stretching the video (pan scan, letterbox, fullscreen, zoom etc.) it isn't YET an option in the default media player or OMP.

You could request it though

BTW cinemascope ratios (21:9) are usually poor quality cam videos or poorly encoded videos. The black part is part of the video rather than aspect correction and only zooming can fill the screen, but you will lose almost 50% of the picture! I would suggest you wait or look for better quality videos. changing aspect ratio is never a good viewing experience
