  • switch to CSSU
  • install power kernel
  • overclock to 805 mhz
This is a start. HAM is slow, painfully so. Use apt-get to avoid HAM, also Faster Application Manager gets around the slow HAM issue. That there is a program called Faster Application Manager is a good indication that the stock application manager (HAM) is a slow mess.

just go to application manager download cpufrequi , conky , enhanced linux kernel for power users and enhanced linux kernal for power user(settings).
after instaling open cpufrequi and increase the freequency after that open conkey and minimise it and again open cpufrequi simultenesily your device overclocked......

You could overclock to 1100Mhz your not going to make HAM faster, especially if you have Devel enabled.

You really don't need to overclock for most thing's.
It's like having a V8 Mustang in a muddy field, you'll just wheel spin and dig holes, til you burn out the clutch.
If you wish to overclock you get better response if you use it on the autobahn (Games, watching Videos etc..).

Also bear in mind overclocking shortens your device life span and causes reduced battery life.

The best advise for a seemingly slow device is:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Reflash (Full Reflash, follow instructions)
http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU (Install after reflash)
http://wiki.maemo.org/Kernel_Power (Install only the main app not the settings)
http://wiki.maemo.org/Swappolube (use recommended settings)
Put swap on uSD
Don't enable Devel in HAM
Keep your Widgets on the desktop to a minimum.

FYI this and more is already covered in great detail in posts and wiki's.

after installing swappolube,i cant find any improvement in speed
I use my n900 mostly for web browsing (youtube,FB,etc) but its very slow...
Will overclocking n900 improve the speed in such things?

You might try installing the Speed Patch to speed up your N900's performance in certain areas. - http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=73315 .

Also it is true that the Hildon Application Manager is slow, you can always switch to Faster application manager, although updating the packages from the repo might take time if you have the Extra-testing and Extra-devel repo's enabled. Usually it's better to have Extra-devel disabled if you'r not planning to try out unstable applications.

DO NOT INSTALL SPEEDPATCH or BATTERYPATCH. You've been warned!
