Apple has implemented the Android-style notification, and the HTC Sense style lock screen:

http://androidandme.com/2011/06/news...d-lock-screen/

What's so interesting is this is precisely (AFAICT) what Apple is suing competing Android OEMs form and is interesting in that it may provide fodder for a counter-suit. Irony at its finest.

I hope HTC has the balls to counter-sue. Bullies must be stood up to.

Here is a developer talking about his experience with the Amazon App Store:

http://androidandme.com/2011/06/news...azon-appstore/

From your perspective, is it worth it?

So nice...
As the Capt'n asked, Have you tried instead using Dolphin browser or Opera? They both are FAR better. I stopped using the baked-in browser ages ago.

A new higher efficiency power cell that generates 1W is conceivably enough to power an Android tablet with a Pixel Qi display in full sunlight. What's even more interesting is the panel can be put in the device bezel.

Imagine what happens when the screen itself is able to generate power! Even to extend the battery life could be a great idea.
Old news, my friend. This type of hack has been do-able and done for quite a few years now. The Instructibles website is LITTERED with these. Case in point:

I called it. It's going EXACTLY as I figured it would. The article pretty much says it all. I urge everyone to actually read it through--it's short and poignant.

These are still the early days, and Google has a natural advantage. Yes, the sales are low, and the 'free' gimmick induces spikes, but when OEMs start including the Amazon App store on their devices, we will likely see more consumer interest.

I'm not saying that Amazon will be successful, I'm just saying that it's a bit too early to tell that they won't.

That's pretty cool, and certainly news to me. Very neat.

I do still like the idea of the power sipping Pixel Qi screen, though, and certainly this march toward higher efficiency (eg. MSM8960 SoC) can only make technologies like solar more viable.

Then of course, there's style and integration...

This is really cool...

Samsung has given a Cyanogen Mod developer a free Galaxy S2 to promote development of the OS on the S2:

http://www.androidcentral.com/cyanog...thanks-samsung

Samsung sure knows how to win the hearts of the community.

A great PR move.

That's tantamount to endorsement of CyanogenMod. I wasn't sure before--and there were many others who seemed very viable candidates, but this move certainly does win me over on many levels.

From the Droid Fans page:
iCloud? pull-down notifications?? C'mon Steve. I thought you had something cool we haven't already had on Android for years up your sleeve... Oh wait. you'll be able to hold the iPhone 5 ANY WAY YOU WANT without losing signal ;P

http://sanfrancisco.ibtimes.com/arti...-wwdc-2011.htm
My take? Best iPhone 5 feature: You can finally hold it the way you want.

Yes, this years WWDC was somewhat disappointing when considering it from an innovation standpoint. However, Apple has tightened up their applications to make the experience better in key areas, which will keep it's users happy and thus passing on the word-of-mouth so key to success in the consumer market.

Notably:
- iBooks now has access to other media (magazines, newspapers, etc)
- twitter integration across the OS. If twitter is really that popular, then this makes it that much more attractive to those individuals that are seeking such functionality.
- Game centre. Strengthens the position of Apple and gaming in a big way.

You can certainly do these things on Android, but I would be surprised if most people don't customize their handsets. What apple has done is exposed this functionality to the masses that would otherwise be invisible. This is not a trivial task, but an incredibly valuable accomplishment.

Don't underestimate the ignorance of people. This forum is founded upon the very notion of it; the major difference is that the general masses spend far less time searching for answers.

I see Samsung making moves in precisely this direction, though their 'hubs' need to tighten up a bit to make the experience a little more solid across the board.
