On my N900 I could tap on a sent message and it would open up and show that it was pending or had been delivered. There seems to be no way of checking on the N9 that the message was deliveredd.

sure it says at the bottom of the bubble delivered, you have to set it up of course as with any phone
goto settings >applications >messaging
