I was poking around and it looks like the maemo-mapper.desktop file as well as the com.gnuite.maemo_mapper.service file got installed in the root directory (/) rather than where it was supposed to go.

It might be fixed simply by putting those back there they belong.

/usr/share/applications/hildon/
and
/usr/share/dbus-1/services/

respectively.

That is what worked for me.

Thanks. You saved me.

But I will make a small correction:

maemo-mapper.desktop should go to /usr/share/applications/hildon/

and

com.gnuite.maemo_mapper.service should go to
/usr/share/dbus-1/services/

That's all.

Anyone willing to share the steps to accomplish this?

Best if presented in user-dummy language. ;-)

open a X Terminal
and then copy the text below:

cd /
mv com.gnuite.maemo_mapper.service /usr/share/dbus-1/services/
mv maemo-mapper.desktop /usr/share/applications/hildon/

How come I am getting "Permission denied" when I am using the mv command exactly as you.

cp command is giving me a "cannot remove" ... "No such file or directory"

Probably needs "sudo gainroot" first.

I don't think it's related to this update, but I can't seem to connect to the GPS anymore.... it keeps saying "searching for a GPS receiver" and the GPS icon in the status area keeps turning off and on.

1. Is your Bluetooth icon blue ? Otherwise your N810 has no BT connection with your GPS device (assumed you are using a BT GPS device). Otherwise re-pair the N810 with the GPS (control panel -> GPS -> Bluetooth).
2. Check the fix status on the GPS device itself (usually a green / orange led is blinking when there is a fix, otherwise continuously on).

You can also test the GPS fix status from the N810 control panel without using any application.

Yea, I had the same problem with the update. Once again, those "engineers" It's amazing how the theory of "TEST BEFORE you put it out there" escapes such super geniuses. Thanks for the link to the old version again, got it up again. I gotta learn to stop downloading updates. It's clear many of these people have the usual software developer mentality of "I'm a genius, everyone else is dumb"
