Just Saw this on Mozilla's Site,

"Develop a Firefox add-on for mobile by December 7, 2009 and be eligible to win a shiny new Nokia N900."

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/mobile/challenge

don't see how this shows its on a path to success. it's just a chance to win a free n900?? and because you have to develop an app, it's targeted at developers and not the general consumers

nokia had a widgit contest for the n97 and look at how that turned out

at the end its the consumers who are going to be served with this dont you think? it is making the developers to make something to win a prize and it will benefit a consumer. why do even developers make an app or anything? why is nokia focusing on bringing new developers? just to make the end users happy with loads of apps and stuffs like this.

as per the N97 who is using that widget, this is just an step to make developer, develop something for a platform.

they're trying to bring developers because their ovistore has been universally panned especially for maemo 5 stuff and especially in comparison to apples appstore and androids market

but yes i do agree with you that it is the consumers who will benefit from this (hopefully)
