Hello everyone.

We have an a/b/g/n Wi-Fi in the office, but my nokia N9 totaly ignores 5GHz frequencies.

How I check:
/sbin/iwconfig wlan0
wlan0 IEEE 802.11abgn ESSID:"AP"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point:

and
/sbin/iwlist wlan0 chan
wlan0 13 channels in total; available frequencies :
Channel 01 : 2.412 GHz
Channel 02 : 2.417 GHz
Channel 03 : 2.422 GHz
Channel 04 : 2.427 GHz
Channel 05 : 2.432 GHz
Channel 06 : 2.437 GHz
Channel 07 : 2.442 GHz
Channel 08 : 2.447 GHz
Channel 09 : 2.452 GHz
Channel 10 : 2.457 GHz
Channel 11 : 2.462 GHz
Channel 12 : 2.467 GHz
Channel 13 : 2.472 GHz
Current Frequency:2.412 GHz (Channel 1)

But I really do know that we have A-wifi, because my notebook is connected to it. What else I can check? Maybe it locked somehow?

regarding channel(s), i believe some country have restriction over what channel each devices can connect.

for example Xperia pro (china/HK set) won't connect to Wifi if its operated on channel [s]11[/s]/12/13 , but N9 does (Singapore set) and also Xperia pro (Malaysia set).

In short, maybe your N9 set/firmware isn't from your origin country?

just my 2cent theory..

EDIT : SOME CORRECTION

I just ran these commands, and I am also stuck on 2.462 GHz, although the router has several 5.xx GHz channels available.

Does anyone know how we can manually get the N9 to use the 5 GHz channels?

What sort of performance difference does it make?

It looks like this way, but do you have any idea how to check this? Or why I can't use these frequencies in my travels in the countries without such restrictions?

I had some fun with 5ghz there are two things you need to consider, what channels is the router transmitting at and what channels can the n9 connect to which is different depending on f/w.

try channel 36 cant go wrong with that

That's true, regulatory domain resets each reboot. You can use package for maemo from here. Maybe Schturman will add this stuff to N9QTweak to system start. Or we should "go deeper" (perhaps it's somewhere in /etc/osso-*).
