I made a backupmenu image of my old N900 and restored it to a fresh new N900 with only backupmenu (and CSSU) installed, a ... lemme count them... 5 times, and after that backupmenu-restore the new device comes up like it were your old one

Ok, to avoid off-topic discussion about other tools etc, I transferred my last message to this thread https://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=101246

Still, if by chance, there is a way to clone memory with Backup Menu, we can remain here on topic.

BM creates tar-archives, one for root-fs and one for opt-fs, and with both together, you get a complete "plaintext" copy of all files on system
You can extract those archives with arbitrary standard tools of which there's a zillion, linux' tar commandline-tool being only one of them.
Find a - probably obsolete since old version - example here:

You might find interesting: http://maemo.cloud-7.de/maemo5/patches_n_tools/

Also about "unbrickable" read http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_f.../Cold_Flashing - you literally CAN NOT brick the N900

I'm not available for PM, please contact me on irc liberachat #maemo

Joerg_rw, it is very good to see you again; we have missed your learned input. What are you working on now?
