A long time ago, Tom Tanner packaged many of the GNU utilities for Maemo.
These packages install their binaries to /usr/bin/gnu to avoid conflicting with busybox.

Below is a list of the packages and the utilities they contain.

grep-gnu
grep egrep fgrep

sed-gnu
sed

findutils-gnu
find xargs

diffutils-gnu
diff diff3 sdiff cmp

coreutils-gnu
arch base64 basename cat chcon chgrp chmod chown chroot cksum comm cp csplit cut date dd df dir dircolors dirname du echo env expand expr factor false flock fmt fold groups head hostid id install join link ln logname ls md5sum mkdir mkfifo mknod mktemp mv nice nl nohup nproc od paste pathchk pinky pr printenv printf ptx pwd readlink rm rmdir runcon sha*sum seq shred sleep sort split stat stty sum sync tac tail tee test timeout touch tr true truncate tsort tty uname unexpand uniq unlink users vdir wc who whoami yes

I tried contacting this maintainer a few months ago, as I wanted to ask him to push some new releases (for e.g. guile 2), but the e-mail address given by e.g.
Code:
aptitude show guile-1.8
is no longer valid. Has he left Maemo for good?

Looks like a different maintainer to me:

I've compiled grep-gnu, sed-gnu, findutils-gnu, diffutils-gnu and coreutils-gnu for Harmattan and published them on OpenRepos:

Why not in extras? Is it thumb compiled?

Edit: sorry, missed the part about "harmattan".

The packages have been in Extras since 2010.

There is a minor issue with grep-gnu. Attempting to remove the package from the terminal results in a warning that an essential package is going to be removed:
Code:
Nokia-N900:~# apt-get remove grep-gnu
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  grep-gnu
WARNING: The following essential packages will be removed.
This should NOT be done unless you know exactly what you are doing!
  grep-gnu
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
After this operation, 1143kB disk space will be freed.
You are about to do something potentially harmful.
To continue type in the phrase 'Yes, do as I say!'
 ?]
This is because the file debian/control contains the line:
Code:
Essential: yes
The warning can safely be ignored and the line should be removed if grep-gnu is ever updated.
