I have the same error after trying to flash the emmc

Can you try to run chkdsk from windows to check it for corrupted files?

I get an error using quick format.
Something like "this drive cannot be formatted"

I'd take it back under warranty then - looks like the memory chip is stuffed.

I'd agree with what's already been said, take it back.

it might even be that an any action you take to fix it (e.g. format) could invalidate your warranty...

My warrant is still covered by Dell SB so I gave them a call today and they are sending a replacement. Thanks for the help people.

You might try to get debugging info from within your device in X-Terminal. But for some of the commands to work you need rootsh from extras repository installed.
Code:
mount
df -h
ls -al /home
sudo gainroot
sfdisk -l
If you have questions regarding the output, feel free to ask, but attach or copy'n'paste the full output of all commands.

Devildriven,
Try this:

you might be able to fix it but use it at your own risk:

Code:
sudo umount /dev/mmcblk0p1
sudo fsck.vfat -f /dev/mmcblk0p1
reboot afterward and tell us the result

BTW, I had this problem and this did the trick to me.
