Looking at the builds that were put out for the N900, what actually appeared on the N9 looks so different.

Could it be described as MeeGo lite?

Or is it a case of being similar to Android, where the manufacturer can make it look like anything they want, on the surface?

I think Nokia N9 is truly maemo 6 device which supports MeeGo API.

Sure it looks a bit nicer, it just doesn't have the same meat as 5 does.

Wasn't the last of the maemo devices supposed to be the consumer device anyway? Granted Maemo6 did go for a ride in the meego train only to find that he had to switch terminals half way down the track, but that was the idea I have been lead to believe.

Here's a quote from Anssi Vanjoki on the Nokia N810

This is Step 3 of 5
Interestingly enough, Nokia mentioned that the N810 was the third of a “five-steps” strategy aiming at bringing such connected devices from “super-geeky” to “consumer-friendly”.

At the time I guess it was not to be taken too literally, but it actually turned out that way.

I still want one.
