I would not say it is necessarily a bad thing, although it makes some jobs that little harder for you when you have to explain something to a dummy who only understands pretty pictures.
maybe YOUR visual intelligance is more suitble for machines and robotics less for musseums and humanity. Does that makes you dummy ?

I have no idea what you mean by that comment?

Still I'm standing behind what I stated before; The UX idiom of clicking-for-instant-gratification has at least partly caused people to not read the well written documentation and guides.
What I'd expect from people is to first try to analyze the situation themselves and if there is obvious deviation from the documented behaviour, then ask for help.

It must be so that the current clicking-on-pretty-pictures UX idiom makes dummies of people....
Hey now!
technical / cerebral semantics and arguments aside ..
I happen to like the pretty pictures...
It breaks up the all-pervasive monotony.

Of course ...I'm not saying people shouldn't think.
But I won't complain with a nice looking interface...
especially when I'm doing the same thing repeatedly puttering with this..uninstalling that...reinstalling the other thing and flashing over and over again...something pleasant to break the tedium is more than welcome now and again.
What would REALLY help is ummm...idunno...saaayyyy howabout ...an EXTREME CHROOT (or flasher or de or welll...whatever) where it keeps the user sharp. O yea...sure it has pretty pictures and calming colours and it takes a deliberately predeterminedly OVERLY long period of time to complete a task which lulls with the pretty colours and pictures ...(hey maybe include gentle soothing sounds too...) and playing something like a smooth and quiet "da da-dadada" Girl from Ipanema ... and then suddenly "ZZAAAPPPP!!!!!" it shocks the user out of his/ her torpid zombie-like state with some voltage!
Sure it may drain the battery doing so...BUT the user would pay pretty sharp attention after the first zap or two that crisped the old fingernails!

I am pretty sure I am a dummy in many fields. For example baseball. Or cricket. I am happy to admit it and I do not see absolutely anything offensive about that. The word may have originated from "dumb" but it has mutated and now it just means, "someone inexperienced". Which, with all due respect, you are.

And in case you did not notice, I was actually taking your side by defending GUIs and their role in making computers more accessible to common people. Your reaction was utterly unnecessary.
