Hi

I heard that there is already the Cordia project working on a "Maemo"-desktop for Meego, so I thought why having this not on Ubuntu!
I browsed the web and found many resources for hildon-desktop:
http://maemo.gitorious.org/fremantle-hildon-desktop
http://gitorious.org/community-ssu/hildon-desktop
http://gitorious.org/mer/hildon-desktop
http://gitorious.org/cordia/hildon-desktop
http://gitorious.org/qildon/hildon-desktop

which source should I use to build it?

What I plan is to build the hildon-desktop via launchpad recipes, so whenever new source will be commited to the branch, the launchpad builder will create new packages.

Just FYI. There is a hildon-desktop package already in the 11.04 repositories. And it even launches something when run from a bare xterm. But that's not usable at all.

that's hildon desktop from OS2008

See these links. I tried to compile with no success. I did manage though to run it through scratchbox in the main X server in ubuntu and run a few apps from my ubuntu box in it, but it was too slow

Well, it seems that I'll need to downgrade some dependencies.
So, I'll try to downgrade first of all gtk2.0 which seems to have differences to the one provided by Ubuntu. I think I'll simply install the libs somewhere else on the system and rename the package to gtk2.0-maemo and make it possible to have two versions installed. In addition it shouldn't brake other applications this way.

And, yes, for Ubuntu I'll need the hildon-desktop provided by CSSU because this source supports application entries from /usr/share/applications as far as I know..

i used ibinde-hildon-desktop because my netbook had a resolution!=800x480 and normal hildon-desktop did strange things.

If you manage to compile it please share it. I also thought that it would be cool to add the extras repo to ubuntu somehow and install hildon apps. Maybe an older debian would fit better.

The Cordia (for Meego) team made many improvements to the code.
I also found today a subtree in git:[..]cordia/hildon-desktop which compatible with clutter-1.x, so no need to provide maemo's clutter-0.8.

You can join the team if you like and help out as far as you can
