Profile Changer Widget
Small widget intended to enable an easy change between general and silent profiles.

The release version 1.0-1 of Profile Changer Widget is available in extras-testing repository.

The current features are:
  • encourage people to give feedback
  • configurable widget opacity
  • configurable widget width and height
  • configurable whether current or next profile icon shows
  • i18n support

Known limitations (I will fix them as soon as I know how):
  • "Done" Button from settings dialog is not translatable (QT Bug)
  • Feedback button opens browser only when the browser daemon process runs
  • When updating the widget the old version is visible in the back until a phone reboot

And here is what you can do:
If you like the software, please spare some time for learning how package testing works at http://wiki.maemo.org/Help_testing_software
If application passes every point required in http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras-testing/QA_Checklist , give it thumbs up!

Additionally, I will not release a new version to testing repository if the current has not enough positive or negative votes!

The 1.0 version is available in extras-testing repository.
I did not follow my own rule (not promoting a new version to testing if has not enough votes) for the 0.7 version, but I will for the current and next versions.
The main reason for that is the fact that I implemented a mechanism to encourage people to give feedback for this widget.
A small notification will popup the first time you open the settings dialogue after installing a new version. It encourages the user to give feedback for this widget. And I added a "Feedback" button which opens a browser at the package page.

The 1.0 features are:
  • encourage people to give feedback
  • configurable widget opacity
  • configurable widget width and height
  • configurable whether current or next profile icon shows
  • i18n support

Known limitations (I will fix them as soon as I know how):
  • "Done" Button from settings dialog is not translatable (QT Bug?)
  • Feedback button opens browser only when the browser daemon process runs
  • When updating the widget the old version is visible in the back until a phone reboot

I installed this widget via apt-get months ago and was happy with it; anyway last month it showed up in application manager updates and after updating I got an annoying bug: when i tried to add profile changer widget to the desktop the result was in clearing all other desktop widgets and I had to add them all again to the desktop.

No way I could solve this (add profile changer widget -> all desktop widgets gone), so I unistalled it.

Is this a known problem and has been solved?

I got this project handed over by the initial developer. My first tries had big issues.
I don't want to be impolite but you should not be surprised, since you installed the non-working versions from extras-devel repository. Even the need for a reflash could occur.
I promoted the current version (1.0) to extras-testing repo which means I am quite sure, that it works.

I found that it is actually a missing translation in QT.
I filed a bug:

Please Vote!

I tested and upvoted profile-changer-widget as it works as expected.

I have a few minor suggestions though

1. Make the default size exactly the same as other icons
2. Use the default icon background from the theme
3. Tweak the snapping behavior (try enabling snapping from transitions.ini or cssu features app) so that it can be aligned with other icons on the desktop
4. Use sliders instead of spinbuttons, as they are significantly more usable on a touchscreen

good job by the way, I wouldn't have downloaded it as I don't change profiles much but now I'll keep it because I liked it

tks for not giving up on maemo...i like this widget idea, but i have profilesx installed on my device, so i have more than the general and silent profile..could this widget autodetect and work with other profiles as well?..or maybe it would make more sense just change between silent and current profile, so i can mute the sounds, and when off just let user configurated profile take his place..nice job!

I have 72px as default width and height. What is the default icon size?

Good idea. Had not thought about it. Then one option would be to adjust width, height, background color and opacity and the other would be to take the theme's background icon.

I have to take a look, how I can influence that.

This will definitely make it into a future version.
