Does anyone know whether the N9 'calls home' upon inserting a SIM card or connecting to a wifi for the first time? I.e. is there something cherry-like?

Yes, there's a process called "cherry" but I have not looked at it more thoroughly so I cannot say if it duplicates the same functionality as on N900.

I don't think that anybody at nokia cares about the N9 any more.
even if it was calling home, nobody would probably be there to answer

They are now M$. The fact that nobody knows where that info ends up exactly doesn't make the whole procedure less dubious, imho.

Sure but M$ wants to push their shitty phones ...
don't see why they would have an interest in harmattan users.

the real question is what information is passed on to those guys?!
