What Intel should do is buy Texasinstruments ARM division.

Intel will never get that crap X86 platform working, without as BIG fan, on handset anyway.

Then they may comeback on handset market with Meego and pissing on Microsofts Windows tablet/Windows phone strategys...,

Anybody is free to licence the ARM architecture, but that is not the business case for dominant tech leader like Intel.

Nice timing. Just as Nokia is about to ship N9, rumors like this are being told. Who's the "industry source"? Steve Ballmer?

Intel did manufacture arm chips and they bailed out. I've got a Pocket Loox around here with an intel Xscale 400mhz, pretty competent chip for it's age.

If I remember correctly, when 770 appeared, the Intel xScale 400 MHz was a major hit in PDA world. 770 was often criticised to to be inferior to those pdas due to the 252 MHz cpu clock

It could play sd xvid movies fine. Something that the much later Qtek S200 (TI omap 200mhz) and 5800XM (unknown armv7 chip 400something mhz) couldn't even dream of.

EDIT: And it had a powersaving mode in that it was clocked at 200mhz. It was indistinguishable in normal use, except when using gps or watching movies.

(btw that was poc for the N95 and it's dual CPU plus GPU - 2nd cpu and gpu scrapped for N96 and N97 just when people started to care about smartphone performance, that's what I call perfect timing)

(I don't want to mention N-gage 2 ok? I don't)

Intel did have a chipset waiting in the wings, for a couple years now.

It's just that their chipset sucks.

They keep claiming that they're going to release a new version that doesn't suck "any day now", but so far nothing has materialized.
