This new app seems to have been hidden away in the N900 FM Radio calling topic but I feel it is worthy of its own thread as it appears a great app, perhaps even a Top10 app for the N900?

The app now allows phone calls to played via the car radio speakers using the FM transmitter.

Thanks to Roeland for the app.

i tested this with a friend and fortunately. the mic on the n900 works quite well and he cannot detect any echo in his voice. he also says there is no discernible difference between this and hearing me with the phone held near my face..and this is with the n900 held at a distance of about 12" from my mouth. not too bad indeed!

i also like the fact that with the car radio, i can boost up the audio to levels beyond any bluetooth headset or built in speaker can.

if you can find people with fm receiver phones, you can have a little "multi-cast" session here. haha.

that is an awesome idea!
even better would be to have other phones with FM transmitters, so everyone transmits to the same channel and have group convos!

Edit: Wait, wouldn't the frequencies just overwrite each other...?

It's either in devel already (I checked the other day and couldn't find it, but might be there now) or get it herehttps://garage.maemo.org/projects/fm-carkit/

l think it can also be left switched on all the time or, to conserve battery time, just when you enter your car.

The icon is on the same drop down list as the internet connections etc.
