At least with skype you can video call with anyone using skype.

with iphone4 for example you can only video call with other iphone4s as I understand

Well with 3g video calls you can video call almost every other 3g phone, except n900 and maybe iphone&android, though those are a bit like maemo in starting from scratch and not supporting all the telephony stuff.
