I guess this isn't quite the forum, but i seam to have nowhere else to go. Internet works, but, MMS does not. Some of the information i'm getting from my ISP makes... little, to no sense. My device speaks Swedish, but hopefully we can get around that.

This is the fields in the phone: (And in this order)

Åtkomstpunkt: services.telenor.se
Användarnamn:
Lösenord:
MMS-central: http://mms
MMS-centerport:
Proxy: 172.30.253.241
Proxy Port: 8799

this is the "suggested" settings from my ISP:

Namn: Telenor MMS
APN: services.telenor.se
MMSC: http://mms
MMS-Proxy: 172.30.253.241
MMS-Port: 8799
MCC: 240
MNC: 08

The more... complete information from the ISP is:

* MMS-APN
Namn: Telenor MMS
APN: services.telenor.se
MMSC: http://mms
MMS-Proxy: 172.30.253.241
MMS-Port: 8799
MCC: 240
MNC: 08
Authentiseringstyp: Ej inställt
APN-typ: mms
APN-protokoll: IPv4
APN-protokoll vid roaming: IPv4
Protokoll: http
Maximal storlek: 600 kb
MMS nerladdning vid roaming: Manual
Giltighetstid: Maximum

Does any of this make sense to anyone?
Also, just for reference. Does one have to reboot the phone for the settings to take effect, and yes, is i grabbed some app ages ago that gave me a software alternative for rebooting, and shutting down, this is hopefully sufficient?

I tried using the 8799 for "MMS-centerport:" which made it try for longer before failing, and the blue "dot" replacing the WiFi symbol said 3.5 rather then 2.5. Well, i'm putting my hope in you guys n' girls. Can you help me sort this out?

Thank you for your time and effort.
B!

May be wrong but thought that APN = services.telenor.se is Android APN, what about trying internet.telenor.se instead.

APN = internet.telenor.se
User Name
Password
Multimedia message centre = http://mms
MMS centre port = 8799
Proxy = 172.30.253.241
Proxy Port = 8080

How do you read settings from device?
Found them under system-settings-APPlications-messages (ah, that smartphone approach )

I do not care as I received a SMS once upon a time and all settings were applied automatically.
What about asking your provider to send you a configuration SMS? Sometimes possible easily from their web site, too.

p.s.: internet and mms APNs are different beasts, but ofc might be the same APN (using proxy)

No idea.

Actually, i did ask them to. And it seams they depend on the phone being able to "request" the information, and don't have anywhere to force a configuration SMS. I don't quite understand why you would remove a feature on their end, but, well, what do i know.

For what it's worth:
* Surf-APN
Code:
Namn: Telenor Mobilsurf
APN:	services.telenor.se
Proxy: Ej inställt
Port:	Ej inställt
Användarnamn: Ej inställt
Lösenord:	Ej inställt
Server: Ej inställt
MCC:	240
MNC: 08
Authentiseringstyp:	PAP
APN-typ	Default,supl
APN-protokoll:	IPv4
APN-protokoll vid roaming:	IPv4
* MMS-APN
Code:
Namn: Telenor MMS
APN:	services.telenor.se
MMSC: http://mms
MMS-Proxy: 172.30.253.241
MMS-Port:	8799
MCC:	240
MNC: 08
Authentiseringstyp: Ej inställt

So it seams they use the same "services.telenor.se" for both Internet & MMS.

If you use a file browser, it's in "home/user/.mms/mmsprovis.conf", but either i never got any auto-configured, or they are removed when you try manual, since all i got is the manual stuff. You could check there. The "user configuration" might not reflect whats being used if it's auto-configured for ya. I say might, as i have no idea.

Is there some other setting that could cause it to fail, even if the MMS settings them self are OK?

Did not have that mmsprovis.conf (due to automatic setting).
Set it to manual and file appeared.

After reading my settings and comparing to your settings above the only ppssible misconfiguration I see might be the port.
you wrote in your settings
mmsc-port:
proxy-port: 8799

but provider tells only about
mms-port:8799

so maybe set
mmsc-port:8799
proxy-port:

But I am not convinced!

Other thing might be the size of MMS.
To what is it set?
Set it to <= 300k
Maybe provider is blocking bigger messages (should not, only charge higher fee).

Else no idea, sorry.

--
just read you already tried that port thingy
Is your network set to 3G or dual?

--
what is the error output?
try dmesg
or
tail /var/log/syslog

I pay for my trafic, and, I'm trying to receive, not send MMS. (Don't dare to try sending until i get it at least half-working.) the image i'm trying to grab is 30k, the "limit" (i think it only applies to sending) is 600k as per the third line in the above MMS-APN.

This is, from where i disconnected the phone from my USB, went to open the MMS, and download the image, (30k'ish) and waited for the error message and then went and copied the log. Since i dont understand whats what, i just took the lot, and hope it tells you guys something.

Again, thank you for all your time.

Will try to take a look into log later.

But would you also decribe
did it work before?
what kind of message you got? [open MMS???)
Please elaborate on workflow...

I know of services where you need to send one MMS from your device so the provider marks your device as MMS-capable!

Thanks. I'm reluctant to send a much larger sample publicly, but if need be, i'll have to go through it, sanitize all phone numbers, and post "all of it".

Well, yes, and no. With my only earlier operator, it worked flawlessly, from day one. Then i switched to this one, and there was an issue. Couldn't send, or receive. After a couple of weeks, almost months, they "figured out" that it was a problem with the actual service provider, and shortly thereafter i got a SMS with settings, and it started to work. Then, a couple of months ago, they decided to change to a different service provider, and sent out new SIM-cards. I figure this is when it quit working, since i don't really use MMS, so i haven't really noticed. It should work, of course, so i sort of need / want this sorted, and so i have been bugging the crap out of their support, which then simply quit responding... If i cant get this sorted through you guys i'm out of luck, and while it might seam silly, i will change operator. For a service i use, like twice a year.

It just says (in swedish tho) "Multimedia message" and has a small "play" icon/bubble to the right. In small print it reads "Download failed. Press the message again to retry." If i do, it reads "Downloading" and the WIFI starts flashing with a 3.5 labeled blue icon for a while. 12 times or so. During all this experimenting i'm pretty sure i've seen it flash 2.5 at times as well, when i remove all the settings and start over from a clean table.

Workflow... Um, i fall short of really knowing what to do, so really all that has been done is test the "port" number (8799) in each, and both the "port" fields. I also emptied all the fields, restarted the phone, and started over. Twice. Not sure what i was hoping for, but it didn't help.

I tried that earlier today. Was on the phone with the dude who sent the MMS, trying to sort things out without the images, and he suggested it might not be my end, it could be something on his part, and that i should send him a MMS to try it out. I did. No go.

SMS, and Internet still works.
Any questions, ask, i'll do my best to help you, help me.
Any suggestions, i'll try em, again, to try and help you, help me.

Thank you for your time and effort.
