Seems like wl12xx module doesn't have master mode available. Maybe we are missing a necessary firmware blob? From http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/wl12xx :Code:# iwconfig wlan0 mode master Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) : SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.
There's only /lib/firmware/wl1271-fw.bin and /lib/firmware/wl1271-nvs.bin on n9. Firmware revision is 6.1.1.39.339 .Code:Note: There is a different firmware file for station and for access-point modes. Make sure you pick the right one (or both)
I'm going to try my luck at compiling mac80211, cfg80211, and the latest Ti wireless drivers from the kernel backports project.

any updates on this? from what i can see, there are two separate goals:
1) open hotspot soln {uninstall frickin joikuspot}
2) ap mode {connect android phones to n9 wifi hotspot}
i only care about goal #1
