No idea.

But if he took the files from here then it will work. Locally and without detecting proxied connection (which needs a login).
--edit
after taking a look it is a different approach: he chose the solution with a python http server (which also came to my mind but with socat it is a one-liner and lightweight). Unfortunately this will also not be able to detect a login-needed connection.
Mine just returns success, so WLAN is kept open (even if we are behind a blocked/proxied connection and have no internet access)
His will return error if we are behind such 'proxy' and WLAN gets shut down.
BUT the python http server solution is extendable and could be modified so a 200 (OK) or 300 (various?) could be interpreted correctly. Therefore we would need to know what is done in icd2 after receiving http response of 200/300!

btw: maemo.org techstaff is checking for a possibility to host such www service

Question
If it should work, then only for Wifi connection, right? So this would not be a solution for the same problem on my mobile connection.

Yes, this check is done only for WLAN connections, afaik (X-WLAN-Nokia-Connectivity-Test). And it makes sense as WLAN's may be set up so you need to login and this check did so and opened a browser window automatically.
For mobile connection data there is no such assumption as you 'login' with your SIM and normally have direct "free" internet access (at least on port 80).
atm you are the only one with that behaviour on mobile data connections. Since when do you have this?
What happens exactly?
What else have you done to work around this?

I don't know if someone else pointed it out, anyway if I disable (or set to automatic) power saving mode, there are no issues anymore: I'm connected since 5 hours on wlan connection without problems at all (no sim card inserted).

What happens if you leave the area of wifi coverage and then return?

@peterleinchen

Sorry for the late answer, but I was bit lazy this days. First let me thank willing help me and second, sorry for my bad English. We could continue flawless in German (or Italian) but this would be not respectable to other followers.

Now I will explain my internet connection related problems and then some other behaviours. I'm pretty sure, the last has nothing to do with the mobile connection problem we are talking, but never mind.

Internet: Not at least because the poor till total absence of mobile signal in my apartment I've a mobile and a home network.

a) Wlan home network/ADSL
With N900 I never had problems to connect to wlan and also the switch between wlan/mobile worked flawless. The n9 since begin (was an early adopter till a few months it was released but had to manage to get it from Switzerland) sometimes connects automatic to wlan when coming home, but the most time there is no chance, it trys autmatic but then goes to no connection (if mobile not availlable) or to mobile. Then if I select wlan connection manually from the pulley menu I get response "there might be a problem with connection" and no further chance to get it connected this way. The only workaround is to restart the router or the N9 (usually I prefer the router way to avoid battery drainage). I've also tried to delete the account and reconnect from router settings but nothing changes. This is known issue by me, that sucks, but I can live together.

b) Mobile 3,5 G from other operator (the problem posted by me)
In all the years of use two or tree times I was wondering, why I had to connect manually to mobile network when I was out of home. Then I discovered that in the internet settings the automatic use of mobile network was disabled. When this occurred I thought that maybe I've accidentally disabled the switch button to off when I was in the internet settings (to set to zero the counters for example).

But in the last weeks this behaviour occurred four or five times, not in sequence, but always passed about one or two weeks each from other. This is the reason why I wrote the post above.

Now that I'm writing and since about one week this behaviour doesn't occur anymore, so cross the fingers that it is gone.

c) Other problems
1) Sometimes when the screen is activated by double-tap then it awakes but remains irresponsible, so that I can't switch to next screen. Also the power button had to be pushed more times to get some response: by short push the colours of the background get confused somehow puzzled, by long press (maybe a few times) it goes or a) to sleep mode and after reactivating all is ok, or b) the device shot down and after a restart all is ok.

2) When a reminder occurs and the pulley menu shows the options "stop", "repeat" "open" and at the same time the screen rotates automatic to landscape because the inclination of the device, then the option buttons remains irresponsible. What you do in this case? Obviously push the same or another button, but nothing occurs till the menu pops away itself and so you're not sure how this was handled (will it be repeated or has it been stopped). And yes, I've installed "home screen Settings" since long time, but not "quick tweak", so there are no conflicts between this apps,.

(OT start) I hate that the reminder/the events don't repeat automatically a few times like in N900 and other Symbian devices or better, you should be able to set how this is managed. (OT end)

3) Recently I've not changed any setting, not installed new apps or patches so it's unknown why this mobile network problem occurs. The only thing I did, was install new photos via USB-cable in mass mode. Doing this I forgot my maxim to avoid the installing of to much GB at once and so the tracker had to do a hard work for about five hours. Strange, that the music library has also indexed again and it took this long time till the player worked again.

After this biblical long topic, I want to wish a "Lucky and Happy New Year" to you and all the other followers/members.

Hi All

Do you agree that this problem of the WiFi saved connections reverting to manual only happens to someone that has reset the settings? At least that was my case... with or without the Nokia test connection server... I believe now it is up and I am suffering still the same.

I tried to install the patch to the connection test server and it did not solve the problem maybe because I have the "regular" kernel...

Does anyone know what parameter the reset operation has messed up? Could be an easier solution...

I still prefer the Meego to Android or iOS though :-)

Could you rephrase a bit, please? I do not get your post completely.
Which 'patch'? How did you install ("tried").
I have no probs at all anymore (but also did not have that "weird" reverting).

In my case, I think it was coincidental.

I wasn't aware that it was back up, but it looks that way:
Code:
$ wget --spider --server-response --header='X-Nokia-WLAN-Connectivity-Test: true' http://connectivity-test.ext.nokia.com/
Spider mode enabled. Check if remote file exists.

If you don't send the X-Nokia-WLAN-Connectivity-Test header, it returns 403:
Code:
