Hi,

I wanted to wait the last second before answering
if I accept the nomination and run for next maemo council election...

Let me kindly decline the opportunity to candidate for this election
and eventually stay on the council 6 months more.

I see 2 members of the current council have applied already,
so It's good for continuity

At the same time I am happy to see fresh blood eligible too
I want to give them all the chance to get the seat I am about to leave

Actually I was joking online that I would join
only if all others candidates sucked but I don't see any :-)
but you can count on me to stay around to check that
or see how can I help and let nice surpises to happen too.

Let the game begin I'll be the referee.

---

Update: http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_Coun...d_Candidates_:

11 Candidates to go (better than previous one) !

We will check if those candidates are valid...

But they can start setup their program and interact with community , presenting themselves their interests etc...

Sorry for the late answer, I was almost whole week offline.

Thank you for the nomination, but I have to decline, as I won't be able to give proper time and energy to this project.

No worry, You've got plenty of Karma. 579 points actually as I checked it on last thursday.

I have a question for confirmed candidates ...

What are your interest regarding harmattan platform ?

(will ask others once I got 11 answers)

If I'm honest, which I am, I have sort of avoided Harmattan from the beginning. I have zero experience with it and have never seen an N9, even from a distance.

It's certainly unfair to dismiss it just like that, but Fremantle (intermixed with Debian) fits my needs just fine.

I have an N9 that I purchased with a known fault and killed it completely in an attempt to fix it but I've had some experience with Harmattan before that happened. I didn't find it half bad - in fact, I found it much more mature and finished, more intuitive and better supported than one unnamed OS that is four years more recent and based on it. If I ever manage to bring my N9 back to life, I can even imagine using it as my main phone as it seems more phone-like than the N900.

However, OS-wise, I still think Maemo rocks

Not fully, but almost

Exactly!

Maemo is best, but Harmattan was the first (and right/good) step to get a Linux based OS as the base for a smartphone.
Got to it only as it was already killed by "that guy".
If there only would not have been Aegis, crippling the joy of hackers. But fortunately there was inception or -even better- open mode kernel(s). Without the open mode kernel I probably would have ditched or used just as dumb smartphone (you could not even use 'mount'!). Nowadays I switch between N900/N9 40/60%.

But it looks like M$ is doing the next step by removing N9 app support on the Opera Store!
So I see Harmattan starving slowly (but NOT for me!) as only few developers put their apps on OpenRepos (kudos to Basil/Custodian!).
Here I would like to thank also RzR for hosting his Harmattan repo.

And unfortunately I do not see much we can do, instead of keeping the device as long as possible running in our hands. Sorry!

Nothing concrete. I never seen an harmattan device in my life. I think it's an attractive device and I think I could love it but, you know, never had/made a chance to taste it. So I have no particular interesset in N9 however I think we should get as much apps in openrepos but I have honestly no idea what's up in harmattan world. That little interest is purely because I have nothing to gain, personally, for caring about harmattan. Unless I accidently run into an n950 or n9, I see no reason to care much about Harmattan. However I have nothing against Harmattan, but just no (emotional :P )connection.

Good question! I loved the N9 as a device, and have some mixed emotions on Harmattan as platform;
I did some development on it, and did lots of develoment around it (mostly things that do not directly depend on Harmattan itself, like kernel hacking and bootloader development)

I loved the shell, but I hated the mess the packaging was! It was too easy to bork your DEB database and generally the dependencies were more like guesses than reality.

Still, if there was not "that other MER derivative" that I use now as my main device, why, I'd still be using N9/Harmattan daily.

I have to admit in shame I have left N9 pretty much to be, even as I had some clearly marked targets and new features for ubiboot that are quite reachable. I just have not had that much time lately, and there is "that other MER derivative"
