Hi all folks!

My Nokia N9 seems to be dead.

It was recharging, then, after some boot loops, I could not switch it
on anymore. Now it does nothing, whatever button I press, for any
number of seconds. I also tried a brand new battery but nothing
changed.

I know I can flash it back (= restore to factory), there are lots of
posts about how to do that and I suppose I should be able to do.

My concern is: I would like to recover all my data, first (I have
only a backup of a small part of it).

I don't need to mention that connecting it to my computer like I did
before does not show any usb disk from which I could easily copy
all the data back, otherwise I would not write here.

My question is: can anyone describe how to get my data back, if
possible, before I proceed to re-flash the device?

Or: are there other ways to do what I want?

Summing up: I would like to have my N9 work again as before and
my data back.

Last but not least: I could also pay for a professional service, if
available, but I would need to be reasonably sure about the result
before doing an agreement.

Thank you very much in advance

The following command will replace your phone's operating system with the supplied firmware image. All applications will be removed, but music/documents/maps/etc. will be kept. This is equivalent to updating/restoring your phone using the Nokia Software Updater (NSU) utility.

Code:
flasher -f -F main.bin

This way should preserve data you need and fix boot loop.

Hi Mikkosssss

Thank you for your reply.

I followed the guide you linked but when I plug the phone to my computer USB port (after the command `flasher -i') it does not give any sign of life.

I suspect the problem with my phone is a bit more serious than I was thinking.

Any clue?

Thank you all

How far down that thread did you read? You may expect problems when using Windows newer than 7 and and 64-bit OS.

Hi Pichlo

I admit I haven't read all the thread yet but I don't use Windows, I am trying the flasher on Debian GNU/Linux.

Thanks

I had this issue with my N9, seemed to be a battery problem. Unfortunately I never have managed to revive it.

You may want to search the forum for how to revive a very dead battery. The new one you got may have been discharged, since it is unlikely that any (real) Nokia battery is all that new these days, even if unused. It can be a pain to revive a dead battery that will no longer charge when you plug it in with the charger. But usually you get some sign of life (charging starts when you plug in but then stops). Then, you can probably use the Flasher to charge the battery. Also, be sure to do a long-press of the power button, at least 10 seconds, otherwise the phone is not completely off and Flasher won't recognize it when you connect it to your computer.

For example, see this thread:

Did you try and replace the battery? I did, but with no results.

Or do you mean the battery circuitry?

Thank you dini, I'll have to read that thread too.

None of my batteries (old nor new) give signs of life, I am sure I pressed the power button for many seconds and, about the Flasher, it is stuck at

Suitable USB interface (phonet) not found, waiting...

so I am afraid the problem could be worse than the battery itself (no?)

Anyway, I am going on reading, thanks for your advice.

I sorted out this flasher -i issue

https://talk.maemo.org/showthread.ph...77#post1539077

after charging it using an external charger

But I wish I could recover it and preserve applications too
