I like how in a bug report they say it's in maintenance mode only which means it will never get updates, and then looking farther mer was supposed to come and then it just died... Seems nothing is able to sustain this device anymore :/ They keep all the essential parts closed.

I want to add the bugfix http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...768#post769768
to the community SSU.

I downloaded http://repository.maemo.org/communit...aemo1.3.tar.gz and http://repository.maemo.org/communit...42maemo1.3.dsc into scratchbox.

How do I point it to the kernel source? Why isn't it included in this source .tar.gz?

Here's the error from make:
dpkg-parsechangelog: error: cannot open ../linux/debian/changelog to find format: No such file or directory
sed -i 's/^Build-Depends-Indep: kernel-source-diablo (=[^)]*)/Build-Depends-Indep: kernel-source-diablo (=)/' debian/control
touch control-stamp
dpkg-parsechangelog: error: cannot open ../linux/debian/changelog to find format: No such file or directory
cat: ../osso-release: No such file or directory
cat: ../osso-release: No such file or directory
dpkg-parsechangelog: error: cannot open ../linux/debian/changelog to find format: No such file or directory
dch -v -osso "Updated kernel version ()"
dch warning: passwd full name field for uid 500
is not UTF-8 encoded; ignoring
dch: fatal error at line 774:
New version specified (-osso) is less than
the current version number (2.6.21-200842maemo1.3)! Use -b to force.
make: *** [changelog] Error 25

Clearly I am missing several directories. Which?
How do I build the community SSU source?
Who are the maintainers?

So you have some test/sample programs of alsa-lib you want to run? The bug report says to me that some kernel work will have to be done to modify the audio device driver. I would say you need to download the kernel and modify it to add the ioctl.

Why, because you love test/sample programs of alsa-lib that much? Quantify the number of users that might be running the test sample programs of alsa-lib versus the amount of effort it will take to add the ioctl to the audio device. Oh, and please also quantify the additional code bloat and possible interactions with other functionality. Do you have any clue of the details? If not then I would say your anger is misplaced. There is such a thing as return on investment that everyone has to decide. In any case, the kernel is open, download it and add the ioctl required.

"Stalled" would be more accurate - I just hadn't had any spare time to work on hobby projects lately (sorry, but Real Life gets in the way sometimes...)

But, yeah, some more community involvement would be nice (hint, hint) ;-)

Not sure if I would call it a bug fix, more of a change in default behaviour. In any case, modifying linuxrc (in the initfs) would be a bit problematic at the moment :-(

I downloaded http://repository.maemo.org/communit...aemo1.3.tar.gz and http://repository.maemo.org/communit...42maemo1.3.dsc into scratchbox.

You also need source package kernel-source-diablo unpacked under the same dir as kernel-diablo. This hasn't been modified so it's not present in the community repo, get it from http://repository.maemo.org/pool/dia...source-diablo/.
