Is there a way to kill all unnecessary processed and remove them from memory?
I've noticed after a program is closed it doesn't kill it's memory usage.
Opening and closing apps causes your memory to fill and your phone to slow down, needing a reboot to fix.

Attempts have been made before to refresh the os such as optimise n900 but I was thinking, surely just killing off all processes that are not initiated at startup might be a good way to clean up the os and stop the need for reboots every few hours/days (depending on what you're doing).

If this has been covered before please point me in the right direction. All I could find were threads refering to diablo.

Thanks

I second that, android has a program called task killer which frees up ram...
even iphone has one "memory optimiser" then why not n900?

If you have a look I was the second person to post in that thread.
Your script doesn't quite fulfill my needs though.
I dont want to refresh anything.
I want to kill everything except programs, processes or daemons started at boot.

Oh yeah, well, I was thinking about making something like a task killer but, for my need maemo performs very nice and when I it feel slow I can use the OptimizeN900 script

Android task killers have been recognised as doing more harm than good. A smartphone OS is different to a computer OS, memory and CPU is handled differently. Not sure if it's the same in maemo as it's more linux than android, but just for people who didn't know - don't use a task killer in Android

Randomly killing stuff is not a real solution anyway, even though it might temporarily cure the symptoms.

The correct approach would be to identify the exact process (and possible 3rd party applications/themes/whatever affecting it) that causes this and fix/file a bug for the program in question.
