I'm wondering if there's some way to pop the battery out of your NIT and charge it on an external charger. I'm asking, because I'm looking at ways in which I can carry several batteries with me on long flights and trips, and be able to recharge them separate from the NIT. The idea is to pull the battery out, toss it in the external charger, and then let it sit in my room, or off to the side why my NIT does other things with the spare battery. That way I also don't need to have my power plug hanging off the side to recharge the battery while I'm still using it.

You can find an external charger base on ebay....I purchased one for about $5. It is just a plastic sled with battery contacts and a plug for your charger. You slide the battery into the sled and then connect your wall charger.

I searched on the battery type rather than N800, because the battery is shared by some phones.

The NIT battery (BP-5L) is also used in several of Nokia's cell phones. You can buy and use the external battery charger that is designed for the Nokia N-95 cell phone. It has a jack in the side where you plug in your NIT charger.

Here is an auction for the charger...I was wrong about the price...you can get it for $6.95 but that includes a battery as well.

This is what I bought on Ebay. Charger works great, but my cheap battery only lasts one hour.

You can also make a battery pack of 4 NiMH penlites (2500mAh) as an extra power supply to the N810. These deliver 5 volts the same as the charger.

I flew with continental, and one can reserve seats with plug outlets even with economy class. They accept ordinary US plugs. More info, http://www.continental.com/web/en-US...BAC0D8CEF07BB4

I am using Powerfreakz Evolution 2000 http://www.powerfreakz.com to extend the battery, I usually use it to recharge the battery but I can also work on my N810 at the same time.

Ah, interesting. I'm gonna be flying NWA, so I guess I'll have to check with them to see what seats they have with power adapters.

Buy.com periodically has iogear gearjuice packs for ~$20; right now they've got it with an AC/USB adapter for $27 shipped. I have a couple or three (without the mains adapter; they can charge with a Nokia 2.5mm adapter*, or a USB port) and they work nicely with the N800; several hours of extra battery life from a tiny battery pack.

*It's been reported that they die before their time if you use the N800's 890mA charger, so I've only used the lower-current charger from my Nokia phone, and have had no trouble.
