Now Microsoft owns Skype, I just wondered if there were any viable alternatives that are secure, opensource and cross platform?

Has anyone looked at Jitsi for example or other similar products and whether these can be delivered on the n900 etc?

Thanks for the tip uTMY. This Jitis has .deb and is multiplatform, looks good.

"Tor’s Jacob Appelbaum recommends using Jitsi instead of Skype"

How is Jitsi more secure than Skype when it promotes itself as a client for Yahoo, Windows life?

"Jitsi (previously SIP Communicator) is an audio/video and chat communicator that supports protocols such as SIP, XMPP/Jabber, AIM/ICQ, Windows Live, Yahoo! and many other useful features."

Application of ZRTP to set up secure communication with SRTP, Secure Real-time Transport Protocol used for encrypting the voice /chat on both ends even when it travels over evil servers of yahoo and MS?

So it can use the Yahoo / MS protocols to set up secure voice?

Jitsi uses some native libraries (for audio/video codecs, audio/video
capture device, ...) so you need them (i.e. having an ARM version of
these libs) to fully use Jitsi. Without them you cannot do audio/video
calls but IM should work.

> Are there experimental ARM builds? or instructions on how to cross compile?

No we don't provide ARM builds yet. All instructions to compile the
native libs are in their respective directory (see in src/native/).
