I am well aware of Aegis (basically since this thread, so two months now). Or MSSF, included in the 100% open MeeGo. But I'm still not getting what am I starting to get, and not fully getting? What exactly do you mean by highlighting sentences in red?

We were promised a fully open mode by Nokia, so I assume they want to move developers to another platform?
Unless this will come in a later firmware release?

Apparently at the moment "open mode" means "use MeeGo CE".

Which is again... ...something that probably gets a couple of *'s on top of it if I write it here.

Maybe I'm not paying attention, but you seem to mostly be basing your assessment of portability based on the fact that Skype support on the N9 doesn't have video support.

Are you implying that MOST 'apps' are integrated into the dialler, address-book, account management etc.?

Anything on Maemo5 using Qt can be easily ported to Harmattan.

Skype support in Maemo5 *doesn't* use Qt at ALL, because the dialler, address-book and account management aren't using Qt.

This is how a phone is supposed to take off upon announcement:

The one-hand operation of the UI though, works in its favor. The email client is actually good as well...
I actually "like" WP7, but I can see the gaping holes in what's not there.
I just want to support Gerbick here with his post. I have a HTC HD7 pre Mango. This will be my new phone until a Nokia WP comes out.

But yes, the UI is great, it is easier to use and very smooth but I really do miss the multi-tasking function from the N900 but apparently Mango has resolved that issue, but until then...

From my 2 weeks of daily WP7 use, i enjoy the phone and OS but I still find myself looking for my N900. I found myself having to choose WP becuase I don't like iOS/Android and there are very few other viable systems out there now that webOS and Maemo are all but gone. (plus i really prefer Nokia phones...)

As far as the Titan goes, most of the Precentral WP7 users/posters are patiently waiting for the Nokia WP phones and from reading the posts, the Titan is not particularly well received, there is an issue of sub standard specs. Whether that is true or not, the spec'ophiles will have to chip in on that.

Hmm, reviews I've read were great, mind posting some links please? The only letdown from the reviews I've read was the lower ppi due to it's big size screen and 800x480 res. But of all the new WP7 phones, it has the fastest processor for example so it cannot be the specs that's the problem

Why do you keep turning it into porting.
I cited e.g's in response to what you were talking about in that section of your post.
And it had nothing to do with porting...

You're welcome, I guess? I'm still not seeing any answers to the questions I'd asked. Has anybody seen any particular reason why these N9 screens have a bad pentile AMOLED other than the throw-up-your-hands and wave them, "OH LAWDY PENTILE AMOLED IS THE DEVIL" scary dance? As I said, I know that the Android camp's Bionic looks beautiful EXCEPT for these weird pentile display problems that are noticeable but I've not heard of any complaints on the N9's display so far. Can anybody report back on any of that?
The Bionic's display is great, if the N9's is as good overall, it'll be an excellent screen.
As has been pointed out, it'll have limitations (in some respects) compared to SAMOLED+ (pentile, RGBG, 50% less sub-pixels etc).

What you posted here....
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...60#post1105160
Sounds very much like the limitations one would feel if they're closely comparing a Pentile to an RGB Stripe
http://www.tested.com/news/pentile-v...ifferent/1868/

Perhaps that's the basis for the bulk of these "complaints" you're alluding to?
I doubt they're mostly genuine issues, just limitations of Pentile compared to RBG Stripe.
And people getting all paranoid about that fact etc...

It is true. It's just the way the base-line specs are designed.
http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/rev...reviewed.ars/4
It's expected to go up a notch come WP8 though, how much, no one knows for sure yet.
I posted a story earlier where MS for the 1st officially promised to beef things quite a bit.
But they weren't specific on time-frames....

There is nothing worse than reading an article and then not being able to find it a week or so later

Yes, the one article i read was referred to by Jalyst, the other reference is http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/10...c-titan-x310e/ as for any more...i think the big angry cloud ate them all...

But honestly, going back through all that, most of it is first impressions and personal reference. Personal reference can often cloud judgements and unbiased assessments.
