maemo vacation: Nokia N900 as underwater camera
check this post in german on meetmeego.com

It is well known, that the N900 does make fairly good photos. You can check the „Show your best photos taken N900" thread. But the guys from http://meetmeego.com went a step further and used the N900 as camera for underwater videos and photos.

Also under water the N900 does make fairly good photos, but please don't put your N900 into the next bathtub! First watch the video and read the entire post.

As you can see, the video is very clear. Photos are very good, too. Some examples:
(One click on the photos will show them in higher resolution)

How does the whole thing work? Since Jon's video (from tehkseven.net) we know that the N900 is not water resistant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC9gW3Sfiig

The N900 is secured from the water using a water-proof plastic bag. It should be water-proof up-to 70 meters down the water. I haven't tested that, but 5 meter is no problem.

The bag is closed by a system with screws so that there will enter not a single drop.

The only downside of this bag is, that on one side it is a little bit cloudy so that the display is not visible crisp clear.
You can buy this bag in Germany for 15,00 € plus shipping at http://tsh-moelln.de/

Greetings from the sunny Spain. Check more photos from Spain (not under water) at my picasa album.

Thats neat..

Shame i don't have the balls to put my £400 n900 in a bag that cost £10 and put in a pool of an electronics worst enemy lol.

Its pretty good i just wouldnt have the balls to go through with doing it.

And it is not only about the camera.
I'm logging my way on the sea with my catamaran using GPS recorder, making gpx files and analyzing them using some other programs, but that is stuff for another thread

Don't forget the pressure! Even if the plastic thing is waterproof, i bet the device will break quite early. Actually i wouldn't even take it to 5m.

Sorry - but thats just absolutly false.
True - on a nice sunny day u really get some decent photos.
BUT - that's about it.
Low-light pics are bad. And by low light i mean i.e. walking in a forrest on a foggy day. Rather then building a "carl zeiss" thing in, Nokia should have asked i.e. Fujitsu for some help on the chip itself. Or Sharp They produce water proof mobiles - up to 10m, 12mp res & amazing ISO range. And they r only sold in jp (via NTTdocomo)

Nokia has some usable HW in the N900. That goes for many things - NOT for the camera though.
