So a few months ago I sold my Nokia N8 and Nokia N900 to buy the Nokia N9 and the Nokia Lumia 900.

I am using the At&t locked Lumia 900, I tried contacting AT&T to unlock it for me like they've done for my other phones but they directed me to Nokia and Nokia directed me back to AT&T, eventually I contacted a sales rep on Ebay who told me it can not be unlocked for 9 months.

So I turned to third party websites who have successfully unlocked the device for others. They charge anything from $8 - $60 from the various services I've seen.

Does anyone know how to do this on their own, such as deleting the firmware and installing a custom firmware or something like that?

I would be interested in this, too. I just bought my wife a lumia 900. So far, I like the OS of my n900 much better.

I have been trying to unlock my Nokia Lumia 900 from AT&T since I'm going to Europe soon for the rest of the year. I called Nokia and AT&T. I've also read a ton of forums. I also had three different 3rd party unlockers try. All of them could not do it. AT&T said they won't be made public until October of this year and one of the unlockers said it's not been made public as well, but didn't elaborate on a time frame. I think AT&T and Nokia subsidized these and want everyone who signed a contract with AT&T to stay put.

That's true! When I called AT&T again, they told me it will remain locked for at least 9 months for everyone. They found out I have been a customer for 6 years and unlocked my device for me anyways! Thanks AT&T if you're reading this!

Does no one know about codes? Seriously guys. You can unlock phones by entering a code. Each one is unique and you'll need someone who has access to the code database to get it for you.

There's places online that you can check out. Some people in forums are able to find the codes for you or go to somewhere like this http://www.mobileunlocked.co.uk/nokia/lumia+900/

Boom.

You should ask/search for this on xda.developers.forum.com
The lumia 800/900 has their own subforums
