@ryan: You should be able to write to your home folder as normal user. You either have the permissions set wrong on your home folder (improbable unless you messed it up yourself from the terminal - in that case google for some linux permission howto) or you're actually moving it somewhere else. The target directory is what is written in the address bar at the top. (and also what's written in the error dialog).
