How would you rate operating systems to:
-capitalism
-democracy
-anarchism
-communism
-dictatorship

Interesting, every operating system acts more or less in different aspects on usage. Where would Android be located? History will show which ones will survive, but maybe anybody have some further usefull information about computer culture in general?

-capitalism = Windows, OSX (Both MS and Apple want to take money from it's users.)
-democracy = Ubuntu (It's your coise)
-liberalism = RHEL, SUSE
-socialism = Maemo (Buy me and then we can play)
-anarchism = LFS, Gentoo (I will do this my self)
-communism = Ubuntu (Let's help eachother, We are all equal)
-dictatorship = OSX (Apple - Do as we speak.. iTunes e.t.c.)
-1984 = ChromeOS (We will follow all your moves)

I am not sure about Maemo as it's not completly open but still let's you do most of the things. RHEL, SUSE CromeOS was also difficult. I put my own ideologies for that.

RHEL and SuSE are most definitely NOT liberal.

If anything, RHEL and SuSE should be classified under capitalism as well. Let's not forget that RHEL and SuSE are *not* free, nor Open. They are controlled by profit-seeking companies, and are no different from OSX in that respect.

Anarchy does not apply to any operating system. Every operating system relies on a master authority. Maybe LFS gives you the absolute freedom, but Gentoo is definitely not free from a super authority that controls what you can and can't do. Gentoo have a very bad history of controlling what users will or will not install on their machines (such as, XMMS being completely blocked from existence because it wasn't maintained anymore... stupid reason, there was no security risk).

OSX is hardly a dictatorship. The OS itself is very free, as you can install nearly everything, it comes with Python out of the box, a terminal, and full set of admin tools. Ports provides you will the source of all GNU apps, in the same way that Gentoo does (compile your own), and it is highly promoted by Apple. OSX is not iPhoneOS.

Yeah.. i am with you on RHEL and SuSE. I could not decide if they where liberal or capitalist. I was actually thinking of new liberalism (and not liberalism) when i put it up which is more suitable.. liberalism is a bit different. I mixed it up little

I am with you on anarchy too.. i tried to pick the one i thought was most close to it. For me Gentoo really was chaotic why i choosed anarcy for that OS. But you are right about the super authority thing.

OSX or more Apple is the one closest to dictatorship in my eyes. Just look on some of the programs that are on the mac... like itunes. Maybe the OS are more open but still the company behind it sucks.

What is non-free or non-open in RHEL? AFAIK only trademarked data (the company name, logos and such) are restricted but all the code in the distribution is free as demonstrated by the numerous clones out there.
