As I'm sure many of you are aware, the playbook is now about 160GBP here in he UK. I went and got one from my local PC World store yesterday morning.

So far I have been very pleased with the device, I specifically wanted a seven inch tablet that didn't run android and that had hdmi. I plaued with qnx years ago, when they did the 1.44mb internet challenge disc and was impressed by it back then.

I did however fail to do my research properly, turns out that it doesn't find or connect to ad hoc networks. MobileHotspot on my 900 therefore isn't much use (even though it is a battery and heat monster) for tethering.

Does anyone know if there is any way to make an infrastructure mode hotspot?

no need for hotspot - as sjw6234 mentions above

Though I was able to pair my N900 as a bluetooth device I was then unable to tether it for internet connection sharing (Vodafone UK contract). Tried using Mobile HotSpot / QT Mobile Hotspot with no success. In the end the fix was extremely simple as I'd neglected to install Bluetooth DUNS first

Really enjoying the Playbook so far but I am by no means a Blackberry fanboy - I "upgraded" to a Torch 9810 in order to be able to use Blackberry bridge on Friday, the phone is so cheap and nasty that I'm delighted to be returning it and putting my SIM back into the N900 where it belongs.

I've got bluetooth dun working, but isn't it dog slow? I've only got 2g at home to test it, and the nearest 3/3.5g area is a fair few miles away...

Perhaps the EDR bit in bluetooth is designed to speed things like this up?

Not found it too bad - 3g tethered connection on vodafone was perfectly capable of streaming bbc football highlights during my glasgow to edinburgh commute. Web pages load up every bit as quick as on the n900 in normal browsing too.
