does anybody aside from me find it extraordinarily horrible that the tracker db is both
A) completely inaccessible to the end user due to lack of documentation {i, for one, would like to wipe out everything but the texts and call history to improve the responsiveness every once in awhile, and run manual crawls only}
and
B) a more or less complete history of everything youve ever done on the phone, from texts to web downloads?

i dont understand why texts and call history and contacts are in the same place as my file cache, but it makes it extremely tricky for me to extract my text history, back it up nightly, and restore it in case of bricking.

is there documentation somewhere that could let me pull out the bits i like, and exercise some amount of control over this?
so far, all ive found is a way to stop crawling my home.
~/.config/tracker-miner-fs.cfg

also, i would really like to backup/restore texts and call history in some really reliable fashion instead of the hack-and-slash way ive been doing it.

It's the Gnome Tracker. Hence, there's plenty to find about it: http://projects.gnome.org/tracker/ Also, excluding directories and other things can be found on this forum as well.

Me, I like the tracker. It provides a very fast way to find stuff, ranging from e-mails to music.

thx for the reply.
yes, i know what the gnome tracker is, and i know how to not crawl certain folders {its the file i pasted above}.

my complaint is about accessibility of the information being collected by the user.

what i DONT know is how to access it myself. the APIs for the data miners and the data retrieval machines appear to be closed.

i would really like tracker myself, if i could search through my texts and calls, and if i could export them and import them.

if you know how to do this, or where i could find dox for the phone control miners, please tell me.
