Hey all,

I'm going to start working on a ToDo application for the IT's.

What kind of functionality would you like to see included?

Errr tasks.

Nah seriously I'd reckon something like

task id
task name
task description
completion status
tags (rather than folders)
dates
some sort of icon functionality to link to tags
a homescreen plugin (using those icons)
the ability to sync with the upcoming google tasks product

I use PGE todo, so I'll write what I miss in it.

1. subtasks - if I have a task "write program", then I want to add subtasks "design program", "code program", "test program", etc. For me 5 levels will be enough. E.g. tree structure.

2. Time. How much time should be spend for task, how much time is already spent.

3. Move complete tasks to special folder instead of deketing it. So it will not disturb, and it will be possible to review them.

Auto-Tasks!

1. An Autotask has a trigger that gets it added to the to-do list.
2. Triggers are one of:
  • Birthdays/anniversaries in contacts database
  • n days BEFORE those dates
  • Day of the week, month or year
  • Amount of time (perhaps zero) from completion of another task

The last item is very useful for spending plans, cleaning, etc. For example, suppose I need to do the cat litter 5 days from the last time, but last time I was a day early or late. Alternately, suppose I have to get a Dr. Appt 6 weeks after I finish a bottle of medicine. I can set these tasks to come up automatically.

3. A today flag that carries over to the next day if it isn't checked.
4. Display on the home screen

That would be great!

Task that can be edited on the display ... i mean without open a dialog windows to edit the task.

But i ll prefer an outliner

If you want to do it in python, take a look at PyLan it's a tutorial in python on how to create a task manager.

- Alarm \ timed reminder
- Flexibility in the ui to show\hide needed functions\features.
- Quick access (1 or 2 clicks) to access most often features (add\edit task description, notes, categories, deadline\reminder)
- Flexible views\filters to select which field\columns\records to show\hide.

abillity to drag n drop

Categories, so that whole groups of tasks can be separated from each other. (Eg. shopping, travel list, work..)

Tasks that can be ticked off or on, and left there (ticked or unticked). I use the Palm todo-list this way for shopping lists: I basically have a permanent list of items that I will need now and then (milk, soap..) and untick that item the moment I notice that it's missing from the fridge (or whenever I remember it). Unticked items are automatically sorted at one end of the list. When I find that I have time for shopping I just walk around the shop and tick the items going into my basket. Works great.
